Shock for Modi as ruling BJP set to fall short of outright majority

The Congress won only one seat, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won 10 and the Samajwadi Party (SP) got five. India's Prime Minister and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rahul Gandhi won a seat in Kerala in the south and is expected to win a second.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, South India has become a pivotal arena for both the BJP and the Congress. The BJP has traditionally been strong in the north and west of India, while the Congress has been more dominant in the south.
However, the BJP has made significant gains in the south in recent years, and the Congress is now facing a tough challenge to retain its traditional strongholds.
